A Guide to Phuket Holidays

Food & Drink

Food & Drink

You’ll be met by an abundance of excellent Thai and International bites while you’re in Phuket.

Feast your eyes (and bellies) on cuisines ranging from Italian and Middle Eastern to Indian and Japanese.

If you're searching for street-food, you'll find it at Phuket Town Central Markets and the bustling Banzaan Night Market in Patong Beach, where stalls abound with exotic fruits, seafood, meat, vegetables and clothes too. For a more sophisticated setting, Mom Tri’s Kitchen in Kato Noi is famed for world-class cuisine including iconic Phuket Lobster, or Baan Rim Pa on Patong Beach is a favourite for authentic Thai dishes.

Convenience and affordability make it the meal of choice for visitors and locals alike, so it's safe to say you won't go hungry here!

Explore by Day

If you do spend time away from the beach resorts, you have plenty of options.

Visit the atmospheric streets of Phuket Old Town, particularly Thalang Road, which has been lovingly restored and preserved.

It’s full of local markets, colourful shops, quaint streets with abandoned mansions, and plenty of eateries where you can stop and enjoy some island delicacies and a refreshing drink as you watch the world go by.

Don’t leave without getting a soothing back massage at a traditional spa, such as Mandara Spa at JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa, Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort & Spa, The Royal Phuket Yacht Club or The Spa at Mövenpick Resort & Spa.

Must-Sees

There are many things you simply have to see and experience when in Phuket.

At the top of our checklist is The Big Buddha, an iconic 45m tall, white marble statue, which sits proudly atop Nakkerd Hills and overlooks the island below – an ideal location if you’re seeking panoramic vistas.

If you have the kids in tow, take them to the aquarium and have a tour of the Marine Biology Research Centre, with exotic fish, crabs and sea turtles to show.

The Wat Chalong temple, with its ornate pagodas, is another top attraction in Phuket for culture lovers.

Don’t miss out on the Fantasea show on Kamala Beach, where you’ll see trapeze artists, performing elephants and get a huge buffet to dig into!

Top Beaches

Phuket beaches offer something for everyone.

Party central Patong, popular for its noisy bars and restaurants, is also among the world’s top diving sites.

Unwind at Bang Tao Beach, a long stretch of sand where you can lounge or go paragliding and waterskiing.

Grab a beer at Karon, walk down to laid-back Kata or go for a swim on Surin Beach.

Spend the afternoon at Rawai Beach and catch a perfect sunset over the bay at Phromthep Cape.

Venture off the southern coast to discover the powdery soft sands of Coral Island, its waters teeming with colourful fish and Racha, where you can go fishing, diving or horse-riding – the options are endless.

Getting Around

Most of Phuket’s beach resorts are compact and easily explored on foot, but if you would like to get someplace a little bit quicker, taxis, TukTuks and buses are also available. Travelling by bus or car

The bus service in Phuket are cheap but as taxis are very reasonable most tourists opt for taxis. The songthaews (open-air vehicles) don’t have specific stops, so you can jump on and off whenever you like but are not for the faint-hearted. There are also microbuses operating around Phuket Town.

Car hire is reasonably priced but roads can be tricky and driving can be erratic. Most travellers opt for hotel shuttle buses to get around or call a taxi. Drive on the left-hand side.
