Disclaimer: Please make sure you are up to date with the government’s latest foreign travel advice by checking out our blog post on travelling to the Balearic Islands during the coronavirus before booking a holiday. It is also worth noting that, due to COVID-19, some attractions listed in this blog post may not be currently operating.

Mallorca is one of our best loved destinations and bookings for next year are already coming in with lots of deals available for the savvy holidaymaker.

Mallorca is just a two-hour flight from the UK and the largest and most varied and entertaining of the Balearic Islands. There is truly something in Mallorca for everyone. For the kids there are scores of beaches that go on for miles with shallow waters to explore and fun water parks to enjoy. For couples there are dozens of luxury romantic resorts, some adults-only, that provide some of the most luxurious service and breath-taking views you can get.

This island offers it all in the way of entertainment too. Millions come for the beaches but the nightclubs, water parks, adventure parks, shopping malls, harbours, history and architecture in Alcudia, Soller and especially Palma de Mallorca are also exceptional. A Mallorca holiday allows you to combine the best of a Gothic city break with the relaxation of an all-inclusive holiday – this is especially true in Alcudia and Palma de Mallorca.

Today we’re going to recommend a few Mallorca holiday destinations that offer something a little bit special, not just golden beaches and great hotels.

Palma de Mallorca

Palma de Mallorca is the capital of Mallorca and home to some of the best beaches, architecture, restaurants and clubs. A holiday here will suit couples who enjoy urban centres and culture. There’s nothing better than waking up early and exploring the Gothic quarter and harbour before the tourists get up and enjoying the local horchata and churros.

Of all the things to do in Mallorca, the Catedral de Mallorca is the #1 must see. This dominating and exquisite cathedral can be seen from miles away and sits almost directly on the beach. The Gothic and Renaissance architecture and detail is perhaps only surpassed by Le Seu in Barcelona.

Palma de Mallorca is the most varied city on the island with modern areas as well as Gothic quarters, the port and beach. We recommend staying somewhere central but close to the beach to combine a city and beach break into one.

Port de Soller

A favourite for families and well-heeled couples, this resort is relaxed, clean and upmarket with a shallow bay that’s perfect for children. The town itself is a semi-circle around the bay with the frontline full of bars, shops and restaurants rising into the hills with the residential old town behind them. A holiday in Port de Soller is relaxing and best for families with young children who will get a kick out of the bay, shallow waters and vintage train. Families with teenagers may find this town a little too quiet.

The hidden gem of Soller is the vintage wood-panelled train that cruises around the island stopping off at some interesting points including Palma. For those staying in beautiful Soller we recommend a stroll through the old town and central square for some people watching and ice cream.

Alcudia

A favourite resort among Brits, Alcudia has it all: beaches, miles of bars and restaurants and a charming old town. It’s the Gothic and quaint old town that we recommend the most, with its maze of narrow streets. This well kept old town is the highlight of Alcudia.

The 40,000sq mi Hidropark is a huge water park with scores of water slides and water-themed rides just in front of the beach in Alcudia itself. This combination of extreme fun by the beach, great restaurants and a Gothic old town to explore makes Alcudia a great place for families with older children.

Cala Mondrago

Perhaps the most beautiful cove and divine spot in Mallorca, Cala Mondrago is the most beautiful picnic place on the island. The crystal-clear waters and white sands are almost Caribbean in look and feel. This is the ultimate place to relax with your partner and just chill and enjoy the luxury surroundings. Stay at Cala Mondrago for a romantic couples holiday.

Cala Mondrago is part of the beautiful Cala d’Or on Mallorca’s southeast coast where many of the best luxury hotels can be found
