Who doesn’t love a bit of autumn sun? Here’s what we think are the best October holiday destinations for you to travel to this year, all of which would make a great late summer sun holiday for you and the whole family.

Cancun

What could be better than the warm Caribbean Sea on a tropical coastline in October? With an average of 32.9 degrees in Cancun you cannot go wrong. It is also the best time to avoid crowds as June through to October is the rainy season, but don’t let that put you off as storms are very rare and it is also the cheapest time to visit.

As you will be travelling in low season you will get to make the most of your holiday without the normal hustle and bustle of other tourists and with stunning ocean views and amazing white sandy beaches you won’t be disappointed. Playa Delfines is Cancun’s most popular beach destination, known for its white powdery sands which stretch for miles, or if you are looking to be a little more adventurous and do a bit of snorkelling and water sports Puerto Morelos & Playa Chac Mool are the ones for you.

Not only are you guaranteed that summer vibe all year around here, Cancun is also home to some of the best nightspots that Mexico has to offer so you will be spoilt for choice once the sun goes down.

Marrakesh

If you are looking for a long weekend away but don’t want to travel for too long, a Marrakesh holiday is a great option, with highs of 30 degrees and lows of 17 degrees in the evenings during October.

Known for its rich history, culture and beautiful gardens, Marrakesh is also known as one of the most exotic destinations and if you do decide to travel in October you can be part of the Eid al Fitr festival where the city comes to life with music and entertainment throughout the night.

If like some you want to enjoy the city life of Marrakesh during your stay but would like a day or two soaking up the sun, the closest beach is the Red Beach - also known as Plaga Rouge - located on the outskirts of Marrakech and is only about a half hour away.

Lanzarote

Part of the Canary Islands, October is perhaps the best time to visit Lanzarote if you’re after some sunshine, the average temperatures being 26.8 ºC and 19 ºC at its coolest during the night. You may see some rain but don’t be disheartened as it soon clears up when the sun starts shining. You will also find the waters are a pleasing temperature and resorts seem to be less crowded, not to mention flight and hotel prices will be a lot cheaper! Win win if you ask me!

Packed with beautiful natural landscapes and attractions, if you are looking to do a bit of exploring on the island October is the best time to do so as it is not as hot as it would be during July or August.

Cyprus

Did you know Cyprus is the third largest and third most popular island in the Mediterranean Sea? The temperature in October remains quite hot, mainly in Paphos with highs of around 27 ºC. The sea temperature is also still warm, making it a perfect month for water sports including swimming, diving and snorkelling. October is a great time to explore the islands less busy historical attractions as well as some sun not to mention the crowds are much smaller.

Rio de Janeiro

Known as the Carnival Capital of the World, situated on Brazil’s Atlantic coast, Rio de Janeiro is another destination to visit in October. With an average of 26 ºC despite you cannot go wrong.

Recreio Beach is the perfect place for you to enjoy warm weather and warm sea water. The beach has two popular surfing spots with competitions being held on an annual basis but is not only popular among surfers but is also ideal for families with children and those of you who want to relax and unwind with a nice cold drink.

A fun fact, October in Rio is dedicated to children with many events popping up all over the city, a great time if you want some family fun! The zoo is home to several animals including hippos, lions and even kangaroos.
