For most of us, a family holiday just didn’t happen at all in 2020. Many of us got to spend lots of extra time with the kids while the schools were closed and while we all love spending quality time together, being cooped up in the house 24/7 wasn’t it. Perhaps you got away on a particular sodden UK holiday? While it was fun to spend some time in the UK we must admit to missing those hot summer days by the pool abroad, cocktail in hand, while the kids are merrily enjoying the day with the kids club!

So, you want to make the most of your 2021 family holiday? We hear you! Here’s five ideas for a family holiday in 2021 that wont break the bank.

Majorca

Our favourite family holiday resort, Majorca is home to beautiful beaches and fabulous hotels well equipped to deal with the modern family. Majorca really welcomes children both at the hotels but also just around the towns and cities as Spanish family values persist.

The kids and the adults will enjoy Majorca’s crystal clear blue waters and the range of waterparks and excursions available throughout the island. Majorca is an island to explore with many secret beaches, coves, cliffs and inlets to discover meaning even a return family holiday to the island is sure to please.

Majorca has lots to offer kids including the biggest shark aquarium in Europe at Palma, the amazing Katmandu Park with its mini golf, 4D movies, rides and thrills and the huge Hidropark supplying water park fun over an expanse of 40,000 square meters.

Catalonia

With the city break hot spot of Barcelona and the two famous coastlines of the Costa Brava and Costa Dorada either side, you’re spoilt for choice for a family holiday to Catalonia.

The boys will love Barcelona with it’s amazing Port, the football and museum of FC Barcelona at Camp Nou and the pubs and bars up and down the length of the Ramblas. The girls will enjoy the shopping at Placa Catalunya and the Passeig de Gracia as well as the chic eateries along the narrow alleyways of El Born.

For the kids, a trip to PortAventura, Europe’s largest theme park, by day and an evening spent enjoying the bars of nearby Salou for the adults present just a handful of reasons to take the family on a two week holiday to this special region of Spain.

Orlando

All children want to go to DisneyWorld, from when they’re old enough to talk, they ask to go see Mickey Mouse! And wouldn’t it be great to finally take them? The truly great part, is that Disney and Orlando are actually fun for adults too.

The Disney complex isn’t just about rides but also science and education at Epcot, botany and the animal kingdom at Magic Kingdom Park and Animal Kingdom and not forgetting the sheer fun and thrills and spills of Universal Studios and the main Disney park itself. There is first rate shopping and world class restaurants in Orlando too making it a paradise for adults.

Croatia

Croatia is great for the action family! If you have teenage children they will adore a Croatian holiday as there are so many activities to choose from. Whether you’re into snorkelling, diving, rafting, climbing, sailing, hiking or cycling, Croatia is set up to cater for your tribe. There are thousands of water based activities up and down the Croatian coast, stunning beaches and waterfalls in Croatia are all awaiting exploration.

However, if you’re a chill family who simply love the beach and the activities of burying dad in the sand and kicking down sandcastles that other families have made, then Croatia will also work with beautiful golden sandy beaches aplenty.

Crete

Crete is a wonderful holiday for the imaginative and creative family. With so much history on live display the imagination of any creative child will be set alight with an educational holiday to Crete. Take your troop to the ancient Palace of Knossos and the Heraklion archaeological museum to stir their imaginations if they are into their horrible histories.

The big cities like Chania also boast extensive nightlife as well as excursions and daytrips along the coast making Crete a good holiday suggestion for older children too.
