Beautiful beach and boat in Paleokastritsa, Corfu island, Greece

With news that international travel could restart from 17th May (we’ll find out for sure on 12th April) lots of people are beginning to plan their cheap holiday escape for summer 2021. With positive news coming out of Greece that they would be willing to accept Brits thanks to our fast rollout of COVID-19 vaccinations, a holiday to Greece is looking much more likely than at any time in the past year.

So you decide that Greece is the destination for you. But where in Greece? What are the best islands to visit? Well, let us guide you through your options – you won’t be disappointed no matter which one you choose for your next Greece holiday

Santorini

Are you young, trendy and cool with a large Insta following thirsty for glamorous content? Or maybe you are loved up and want somewhere special to explore with your partner. If you fall it these categories then Santorini fits the bill as to what you may want from a holiday. Yes there are blue skies and lovely warm sunshine, but you’ll also get to have your photo taken in front of those famous views of the whitewashed, blue roofed buildings of Fira and Oia.

You may not realize it from the pictures you have seen but because Santorini once was blasted by a volcano, there are actually black-sand beaches to explore on the opposite side of the island, which offers a totally different perspective to the island to the one you may imagine.

If you want wonderful restaurants, idyllic views and memories (and photos!) to last a lifetime, then Santorini is always a safe bet.

Corfu

This ever popular holiday destination is the second biggest Greek island and is best known for its wonderful scenery, and earns its nickname as the emerald isle thanks to its bright blue sea. Corfu holidays offer fantastic beach resorts, traditional villages and attractions that will please any family or couple that visit. Highlights include Corfu Old Town, Mount Panokrator and for history buffs the Palace of St Michael and St George are worth exploring. For beach lovers, spend the day relaxing on the beaches of Dassia or Perama and you’ll be hooked on Corfu for life.

Crete

Beautiful sunny coast view to the greek blue sea with crystal clear water beach with big tourist boat cruising around pier in Crete

Crete is the largest of all the islands and has been a beach holiday favourite with Brits for decades. Its popularity can be found in its versatility. Its size means that in some resorts you will find young families taking advantage of the family-friendly hotels and beaches such as those in Chania, whereas on the other side of the island in famous Malia you’ll find 18-30 year old enjoying the nightlife and faster pace of life!

Added to the usual mixture of beaches and nightlife is a diverse landscape and in which you’ll find small villages to be explored away from the coasts, which are full of history and magnificent views. If you fancy staying close to the beaches though, make sure you check out Vai – Europe’s only palm-tree forest beach! This Greek island is within easy reach of the UK so cheap Crete holidays should be close to the top of your must-sees in 2021 and beyond.

Mykonos

Sandy beaches of Mykonos

If you love to party – and who wouldn’t after the year we’ve all head – then Mykonos needs to be at number 1 on your Greek island bucket list. You find some of the best nightclubs in the world, plus world-class restaurants and fabulous beaches. Perfect for young revelers not afraid to splash the cash, it is also a firm favourite with the LGBT community who like everyone else tend to be drawn to the revelry along the southern beaches and in Hora. Head to the interior and you’ll find a much more natural way of life with arid landscapes and villages that live life in a much more traditional way compared to the 5-star hotels and restaurants frequented by tourists and visitors who flock to the island every summer. For party lovers, Super Paradise beach and surrounding clubs has been the most reliable party spot on Mykonos for many ,many years and every night in the peak summer months it is filled to the rafters with clubbers ready to dance the night away.
