golfing holiday? Europe and beyond have quite a few options so let us take you through a few of our favourites and we’ll see if you agree in the comments below!
Algarve
The
Algarve is probably the most famous region to play golf in the whole of Europe. With over 40 golf courses and great weather for the majority of the year it has become a golfer’s paradise. The resort of Vale do Lobo is a quiet more relaxed area of the Algarve best known for its many golf courses and wonderful beach which overlooks the Atlantic Ocean, which was has held a Blue Flag since 1987.
Accommodation in the resort mainly consist of luxury villas, some overlooking the courses, and affordable apartments. If you are looking to play golf during the day and party in the evening then there is only one place in the Algarve to go and that is Albufeira.
Albufeira has three 18 hole golf courses at affordable prices. Evenings can be spent popping in and out of its many bars which are situated in the Montechoro area (main strip) of town.
Tenerife
Tenerife is widely known for its family, beach and nightlife holidays but over the years with its all year round perfect weather has become more and more popular with golfers, with many of the best courses in the
Canary Islands based on this island. There are 9 courses in total spread out across the island. Tenerife golf courses offer some of the best coastal golf not only in Spain but the whole of Europe, with each course having its own unique characteristics.
The majority of the courses are designed to suit all levels from 28 handicap to scratch. Green fees are reasonably priced starting at around 40 euros to anything up to 150 euros. The most popular golf course is Golf
Costa Adeje resort which is located in the south of the island. This championship golf course was designed by golf architect Jose Gancedo, who, taking advantage of the natural characteristics of the land – which include old banana trees - to integrate them into the course.
The resort also boasts a fantastic club house, a golf school were you can book lessons prior to you arrival and something different in the way of foot golf.
Dubai
Golf is one of the many
things to do in Dubai and has become one of the leading destinations for golfers over the last decade. This is due to its amazing climate all year round, numerous championship golf courses and being able not just to play a short twilight round but to play a full 18 holes throughout the evening. Emirates golf club has 3 courses to play on but the Faldo course is where you can experience moonlight golf.
The course was redesigned in 2005 by the courses namesake 6 time major champion Nick Faldo. The course consists of water hazards placed throughout the course as well as bunkers with the naturally rugged terrain to create a visually impressive design. The course is open to the public and members with highly competitive rates for 18 holes and 9 holes, the exciting development extends play from 1700hrs until midnight every day of the week, with players able to tee off as late as 1945hrs for 18 holes and 2155hrs for 9 holes on this amazing course.
