Ibiza for many years has been known as a party island, but this is simply not the case. The island also has a relaxed and peaceful side to it. Ibiza is suitable for both the young and the old looking for something more than bars and clubs. You can enjoy the nature of the north with its beautiful beaches which stretch for miles, visit the fun hippie markets selling flower power accessories, authentic Ibizan products, colourful clothing or even popping on a boat for a day trip across to its sister island Formentera.
Here is a small run-down of my favourite resorts, things to do and visit whilst on
holiday in Ibiza.
Santa Eulària
The resort of Santa Eulària, the third largest resort in Ibiza, is situated on the east coast of the island and is roughly a 30-40 minute drive from the airport. The resorts seafront promenade spans the length of the beach with attractive palm trees, miniature gardens and a large fountain facing the sea. Restaurants and cafés are a plenty and can be found on the promenade or on the two main streets called Calle San Jaime and Calle San Vicente. The resort also boasts an impressive marina where you can take a day trip to its sister island of Formentera (which I highly recommend). In the evenings Santa Eulalia is more laid-back than most of the other resorts with many restaurants and bars to choose from whether it’s on the two main streets or overlooking the sunset on the seafront.
Puerto San Miguel
If you are looking for a more village feel then there is only one place to stay and that is in resort of Puerto San Miguel. Situated on the north coast of Ibiza, a 45 minute drive from the airport, Puerto de San Miguel was once the fishing port of San Miguel village, but is now a popular small resort. Here you will find wonderful sheltered beaches nestled in coves and surrounded by lush pine-covered cliffs, ideal for family and
couples holidays. There are some bars and restaurants which line the beach, where you will able to eat some fine fish dishes and excellent homemade Spanish cuisine. Puerto de San Miguel also boasts a wide selection of water sports, including water skiing, windsurfing and a diving school.
Talamanca
My favourite restaurant and probably one of the best I have ever eaten in is The Fish Shack. The restaurant is situated just outside Ibiza town in the resort of Talamanca. The restaurant itself is situated on rocks (appropriate footwear advised) and you will find yourself sitting on plastic or old wooden chairs overlooking Ibiza town where you will witness the spectacular sunset Ibiza has to offer. There is no menu as such, the waiter or waitress will advise what is on offer as it just serves fresh fish caught that day. I recommend if caught that day having the giant prawns for starter followed by tuna for the main course. To avoid disappoint I suggest getting there mid to late afternoon as this place is always busy.
